Instead of using a brake/shift cable/lever off a bike you could get a cheap servo from a hobby store.
That allows you to control it electronically, which gives you the opportunity to do all sorts of cool things like connect safety relays (shut down if RPM is above certain range), route the controls to anywhere in the car, or hell, even get a cheap remote control system (simple wireless switch from pep boys) and control it from a distance far away.
Just an idea.. I'll be doing that for a friend of mine who is going to run an inverter, that'll allow him to remote start the vehicle, then adjust the RPM via a seperate remote to whatever he needs.

LOL I can't tell you how many times my RC car got stuck at WOT due to a servo, or RC reciever!!! BE careful!!!!!

It would still be better for use, even if you don't use radio controlled.
also, R/C cars use DIFFERENT frequencies than alarms and what not.

Oh, I see now...duh. Yeah, you could just use the servo and have it direct wired to a control button or knob or lever...that would be pretty sweet and you wouldn't have the problem of interference on the radio. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="images/icons/smile.gif" />

well.....um...if you want cruise control, you can put on in from a donor junk.
