After test driving 3 GEN II Montero's I realized that I haven't heard the radios. Every time I try to listen to it I get a "c ode" from the display. Is there a code I need to turn it on??
Thank you to all who taken time to answer my questions I truly appreciate the time you have given your repsonses. I promise(hopefully) that I should have this purchase wrapped up in a few days and then maybe I can start contributing more.

The Gen II's have a radio security feature built into them. When ever the power is disconected it is reset. I don't know how the code is determined, but I think it is generally written inside the manual. Otherwise you'll have to talk to the dealer.

On my '00, the individual Radio Code was supplied on a separate little Credit Card-sized "document" within the Owner's Manual so that it could be kept somewhere separate from the Vehicle. The Dealer programmed in the Code before I picked up the Vehicle.
My hunch is that the Dealers have not yet programmed in these discrete Radio Codes. This is likely their way of reducing Radio thefts from their lots, since a stolen Radio won't play w/o Code.
VW did a similar thing on the Wife's Passat. They actually unscrew the Roof mount antennas while the Vehicle is on the lot cuz those swept-back antennas are mighty popular to steal, apparently...

call the dealer. I was leaving for a trip and that happened. I calld the dealer after I was about 50 miles away. HE lookedup the code and talked me through it. Easy and fast. Then you mark the code in your manual and it never happens again.
