4.3 TBI Installation Questions #249936 03/10/03 07:05 PM

I am now the proud owner of a used 4.3TBI. I am in the process of trying to fit this to my 3.1.

The 4.3TBI is on the right. Here you can see the linkage looks like it is rotated 180*. It looks like it will take a little adaptation to get this to hook up properly. There are also three screws tapped into the side of the old TBI that are not present on the new one. It looks like I could drill and tap some holes however.

There are also differences in the what I think is the TPS sensor. I was wondering if I could try and find the proper plug and tap this into the wiring harness or should I try to fit the TPS from the 3.1 to the new TBI?

Many thanks,

Matt

Matt,
Click on the search button, in upper right corner of forum page, and type 4.3 tbi. There have been many detailed postings concerning the 4.3 tbi swap, throttle linkage, tps, injectors, etc.

Matt,
Congratulations on finding a 4.3 with throttle linkage on pass. side and you can use your 3.1 tps, on the 4.3 tbi.

Thanks for the response....I found out that the TBI that I have is a pre-89. I can use the TPS on this one but I will have to find a plug from wiring harness of the same vintage...

I think that with a little tinkering I should also be able to rotate the linkage.

Matt is at Moab, but I'll answer your Q's....

how did you end up connecting the TPS on the 4.3 TBI?

See the funny thing is, its not connected Actually the motor is still sitting in a corner at the machine shop waiting final instructions....

also...any info on how you did the throttle linkage would be appreciated.

Hehehe.... see above You can buy replacement pigtails from any auto parts store, so just cut yours off and splice in the other style; the color codes for the wires are a match.

how come whenever somebody says 'you can buy xyz at any auto parts store', i NEVER can?

spent better part of 2 hours going to local NAPA, Kragen(2), Chevrolet/Isuzu and 2 electronics stores. No success on the 3 barrel connector for the TPS. my junk yard man got it for me though.

Oddly enough I was in a parts store in Utah on the way to Moab and I saw a 3-prong adapter for the 4.3TBI TPS....

$7.99 and it could have been mine.

I also gave up and got mine from a junk yard. I just pulled an old Trooper wiring harness.
