OK, I admit it, I can't recallàdo you gain more w/ 2 pulleys (winch to pulley on anchor to pulley on bumper to anchor) than just a double line w/ 1 pulley (winch to pulley on anchor to bumper)?
I must be going brain dead, as I recall that physics dictates you go w/ a third pulley to get a true triple line and the additional multiplication of the winch's capacity (ie, winch to pulley on anchor to pulley on bumper, to second pulley on anchor, to bumper).
To that end, I recall the gain for double lining but does anyone recall what it is for the above more complex systems?
Thanks!

The more pulleys that are used, the more weight the same force can pull. So, with the right amount of pulleys, a 2000lb winch can out pull a 10,000lb winch without pulleys. Simple physics. The more pulleys, the easier it is.

To answer your question specifically rather than just repeating your question in another way, the force required to move the load is divided by the number of lines supporting the load. So in the case of your question, the winch needs to exert 1/3 the force that would be necessary with a straight pull.
Likewise, the winch will need to move 3 times the length of line to move the load a specified distance than it would with a straight pull.

I was looking at the page on pirate and it got me thinking. Is the cable better or worse in your opinion to the rope types that are out there?

Rope is way better, IMHO, in every aspect except cost... and IMHO, the peace of mind and ease of use far outweighs the added expense.
