What is the best repair manual for my recently acquired '89 4x4 PU with the 22RE?

Absolutely, WITHOUT A DOUBT Get the Factory Service MAnuals for your truck. You can buy them from Ebay, look in the for sale section here, or even call toyota (There is an 800# that somebody will chime in with here in a minute, I'm sure) \
I have found that using the FSM and my haynes manual to be the best. Haynes helps me with the "pretty pictures" (They help more than a drwaing) while the FSM gives me the data that I need, including torque specs etc.
Your best bet is to watch Ebay for a few weeks, and watch several sets at once, and simply bid and pay what you can afford. Don't worry if you miss a set, there will be more. Good luck! Jason

Are the cd versions very good? I see them on e-bay all of the time, but have never seen them suggested in any forums. They are certainly inexpensive. I would appreciate some feed back.

I had a CD FSM for my Beemer. It was fine, but the fact is, I like to write notes all over the pages. Hard to do on a CD... gotta scratch 1s and 0s into the media...

As far as I am aware Toyota FSM are only avalible from the dealership. I found an old 1 800 number from a Owners' Manual and called it was some bullcrap place that took orders from TV or something. The manuals come in 2 parts Engine and Chassi(SP.) They are around $50.00 apiece. Ron

1-800-622-2033. You have to call during normal work hours, west coast time I think.

I bought one used from a buddy used for $50 for he set... actually this was better because he is a Toyota master technician and had his noted are all over the pages. FSM are great when used with haynes or othe manuals. hanes are made for us idiots but once you graduate up a little a FSM is great.

FSMs are great, but don't tell you basic stuff, like where the relays are, even though they give you all the values and tests for them. Can be very frustrating. Don't know if Hanes, etc gets to that level of detail, though. Mark
