This spring swap is supposed to be an inexpensive alternative to aftermarket springs.. However with the u-bolt flip, extend shocks and shock mounts this could get a little pricey, especially if you have to pay someone to fabricate brackets and do the welding.

My rig rides nice....VERY NICE!!! This is my daily driver, I also use it to pull my boat over a 10,000 foot pass to and from a lake, so it has to be easy to drive! To tell you the truth I don’t think you’d notice much difference from the 225x75R15 and the stock suspension and what I’ve done to it other that the noise from the Super Swampers. One comment I got from Jeep owner was. “Wow, this thing drives like my brothers new Silverado”.. To me that’s a bit of a stretch but you get the idea..

I purchased the springs from a local junk yard for $35 for the pair ( thanks Fabian). I fabbed up the front hanger brackets from a piece of 3¢"x3¢" square tubing. I mounted them 11" CTC from the old hanger. I wish I would have mounted them 11¢" or 12" because when stuffed there is a large gap between front of the tire and the fender and they almost rub the back of the fender.

Rear shackles were made from 1¢"x9"x3/8" pieces of steel with the holes mounted 7¢" CTC

The U-bolt flip was made using 5/8" U-bolts 3"x8¢", and the plate are out of 5¢"x6"x¢".

Check out my upper shock mount! it’s a 2"x2"x41?" piece of squar tube 1/8" thick.. With my 2" body lift I just welded it to the top of the frame rails 29¥" from the back of the frame. the shocks are Rancho RS9000X PN RS99012 .. Thes shock are 32.250" when fully extended and 19.375" when compressed, they have 1 5/16" wide bushings with 5/8" holes on both ends.

Lower shock mounts are from AOR. they are mounted 11" inboard from the flange that the brake backing plate bolts to. I have an idea that would elimanate having to use weld-on brackets and use more of the 12.875" inches of travle that these shocks offer.

In order for the parking brake cable to clear I had to move this bracket about 2¢" CTC towards the front of the truck. The bracket was made from 1 1/8"x5¢"x1/8" strap.

I ended up ussing a 5? shim(thicker end towards the front) betwen the axle perch and spring. This will eventually come out and the perch will be rewelded on the axle tube to give me the same pinion angle.. As for now it IS vibration free.

If any of you guys need some of these parts or a complet “kit” fabbed shoot me an email. I can turn most of this stuff out in a day or two..

RAZZ

I was thinking the ones at RockStomper would be good, since they move the lower shock mounts outward (toward the wheels).

ok wait that looks way too simple.. someone educate me.

do i need to move the shock mounts on my rig? i know it would be much more useful but do i NEED to?

so all i need to really do to have them mounted is cut a few pieces of steel 1x11in make two holes almost like an extension shackle to connect to the shackle?? no work needs to be done on front of leaf or rear with 11in piece?

along with ubolt flip kit and ebrake fix. that's all right?

most people don't think about this when they are checking to see if their shaft is too long or not long enough.they just flex it up and say it looks good and will do.but if it looks like it is close to comming out of the rear by lets say 1.5" or 2",most people say thats good. but what they usually dont think about is, what happens if the whole rearend jumps in the air or the whole rearend completely falls down( let's just say your wheelhopping) and when you measured, only one side was dropped and the other was up,not to mention the shaft is in the middle. i always jack the truck until it is almost completely off the ground, then compress it with a big ratchet strap or something..to me that just gives it a better idea of what ya need..just my $.1/2 of thought

I was just wondering how much flex you get with those Rancho 9000s? What is the length of those shocks extended and collapsed? I did the chevy swap on my truck too and I was thinking of putting in some Rancho 9012s. Let me know. Thanks.
