I just bought all I need to do that deckplate airbox mod. After looking at the deck plate, and seeing the depth of it into the box, I came up with an idea. Please give my your "2 Cents" on this.

I have the 4" deck plate, so I bought some screen, and a 4 1/8" hose clamp. Once the deck plate is on the air box, I am going to put the screen on the inside of the box, on the end of the deck plate, and clamp it using the hose clamp. I thought of this to keep as much BS out of my filter (Moths, leaves, roaches, european swallows, african swallows, and their feathers) as possible. I thought about just cutting out about and 8" dia. circle and mounting it with the deck plate, but then I thought if I used a hose clamp, I could relace the screen in the deck plate when neccessary (aside from now having enough screen to do the entire front door of my house!).

My project is going to start this week.

Installing the following:

2 1/2" Susp. Lift
285/75R 16 Tires
Deck plate and screen in the airbox.
Wind deflectors on the windows
Flowmaster Muffler

When parts come in...
Front brush guard.
Rear bumper guard.

I'll be sure to take pictures of the project from start to finish, and before and after.

Thanks for your inputs!

SJ

Geez man, you sure do have your hands full. The screen idea is a good one, I thought about doing the same thing, and maybe I will after you do it. Although, due to the honey comb design on the inner side of the air box, at least on my deckplate, there wouldnt be enough room around the deckplate to put the hose clamp on. But you could just put the screen on and make it permanant. Just make sure you can still screw on the deck plate. Take lots of pics!!!

Make sure you use "sensor safe" silicone or you will be sorry.

Sargent, I don't know if it's because my first language isn't english, but I didn't understand anything about your screen thing...

Is it like Steve's pic? He has a 4 cyl. Do you? Do you have pics to explain a little better. Or maybe I'm just dumb...

One last thing : are your rims really 15"?

The screen would go on the inside if the box where the deck plate comes through much like a pipe end.

This is a very good idea. I'll look into on my box as well.

Steve, reference your airbox...Is that a new style or a TRD one? Or is it a design for a 4cyl? It looks different than the ones I've seen on the V6's (the ones where the filter slides in from the top).

I amended the airbox statement (I hope) to be more understandable. And about the rims, I changed that too. I have 16's.

Hey, Sargent, at first I didn't understand the 8" diameter thing. I do now. It's a good idea! I might try it this summer. So many mods, so little time, so much money down the drain...
