hello,
recently my idle has become very funky... the cold idle is about 1900rpm or so, and as the engine warms, it comes down to about 1200rpms.... except when i have the brake depressed, then the idle bounces from 1200 - 600-800rpm.. it bounces up and down like a rubber ball... probably like once every 5 seconds. i'm guessing it has something to do with the vacuum necessary to work the brake booster, and perhaps something is wrong with the booster and it is leaking air inside or something [unfortunately i've never seen the insides of a brake booster...]
any ideas?
thanks.gene.

Does it do this when it's cold or warmed up?
RK

I had the same problem on my 88. I cleaned the intake at the throttle plate and it seemed to have fixed it. Have not had the problem since.

I've heard of this before. Shawn F from the ORC board wrote about it on his site.
http://www.geocities.com/toyotashawn/bizzareidle.html
It's a long article, otherwise I'd post it.

My 85 22re did this a few years ago.
This may bear no relation to your V6 problem, but I'll throw it out here anyways.
In my case there was a plastic one-way valve in the vacuum line running along the top of the fire wall over to the brake booster. This valve had taken a dump and was causing the cyclic rise and fall when the brakes were on while sitting at a stop. A new valve was a few bucks at the dealer and was simply a matter of removing the old one and slipping the new one onto the vacuum line.

More than likely your idle is set too high. Set the idle at the factory spec or slightly above when the engine is warm and it should go away. My 22re will do this when the idle gets above about 1100rpm, factory is about 800. I set mine at about 1000 to help when crawling.

Same thing happens if the A/C idle-up is set too high.

alright, it's been about a week after adjusting the idle down, and amazingly enough, that seems to have fixed the problem. i'm not sure what initially caused the idle to jump nearly 1000 rpm in the time of about 2 weeks, but it seems fixed now..

thanks to everyone who helped me!
