I have the front axle from my 80 CJ-5 completely torn apart for a ring and pinon job and noticed that the steering knuckles require quite a bit of force to turn. I tried measureing the force with a 20 lb. spring scale and it requires far in excess of 20 lbs. of force to get the knuckles moving. Both sides are the same. There is no roughness in the movement. Is this normal? How much force should be required to move them?
