1961 scout, good luck. IHC used several axles from different manufacturers. It could be a dana model 27. If you are living right the build card might be in the glovebox. it has the components that were used.

a 61 Scout 4x4 came from the factory with a d27 with drum brakes.

lots of info over at binderbulletin.org

Scout axles were more standarized than the trucks. All of the drive axles came from Dana and were 27's in the early 1960's, 44's showing up in the rear ends in the mid 1960's. Dana 30 fronts (drum only) and dana 44's showed up in the early 70's Scout II's with disc brakes.

So the '61 Scouts would have a D27 front and rear.

Good Luck

Disc brake D44's first in the '74 model year. D44's with drums sometime about '70.

thanks for the info, I was trying to find a bolt on replacement for my Dana 25, I thought that it would be, however I measured my dana 27 that was in my cj5 and thought that they were all the same width and found out wrong. I forgot or didn't think I needed to take the measuring tape out to the yard with me and now I think I have an axle I can't use......

Now I'm in a pinch... Do I find someone who can weld new spring perches on or what?
