I am about done with the timing chain and valve job on my 89 runner. After I finished putting all the vac hoses and electrical plugs I have one plug left that I just can't figure where it goes. Do any of you have a clue?? I don't remember if it was actually connected to something when I took the head and intake off. Here's a pic

Is that the one that goes across to your igniter/coil?

Mine's an '86 so the plugs look a little different.

Just a shot.

*Take into consideration the length of the wiring, and what all is within the radius of its reach. All my systems are 88 and older so the plug style kinda stumps me. My 88' has a wire and connector in similar location, 2 wire that is supposed to connect to the A/C VSV..but since I dont have A/C on the pickup, its just tethered to the 3-wire coil lead. How about your EGR? If cali-smog-nazi'd then your EGR will have a sensor on it as well. ~Darin

**You can see the plug just above the #3 Spark Plug area.

Hey, I don't know if it really goes anywhere. Here's a shot of my 89 Runner, it's always been a mystery to me (well, haven't really put much effort into figuring it out), but I've got two plugs that don't go to anything. I'd still like to know, but maybe it's A/C related? I don't have A/C, so curious if you do. My vote is you're probably OK... Tom

That's the same plug. I've got AC and have that same plug going nowhere. What I can think of is maybe for a temperature sensor on the thermostat body?? [Linked Image]

Slip the wire jacket back and see what color code the wires are. Be simple to just look at the wiring schematic then and figure out its purpose. ~Darin

I checked the color on the wires with Chilton's guide for engine and chassis wiring but did not find a match. One wire is brown (maybe faded red??)with blue stripe and the other is blue with white stripe

go to this LINK and look in the lower left hand corner. There is a "LS LOCK SOLENOID" that takes a red/blu and a blu/white wire. More than likely its not used on your application. Carry on...finish putting it all back together and fire it up. If it runs....the plug didnt go to anything. If theres a problem...Id be more than happy to offer more suggestions! lol
