Getting the Wheeling Fever
What does it mean when, after driving a lot of stop-and-go for a bit, pressing the brake results in a "creaking" noise ? Am I low on some fluid or something ? The sound is coming from the brake pedal area itself.

You might get a high-pitched noise when the wear-indicator reaches the rotor, as in "go buy more pads". But usually, this noise is heard without breaking, and goes away when the pedal is depressed.

oh, I just read your post again, you're talking about that creaking noise literally near the pedal? As you push it?

That could be coming from your master cylinder seals, maybe. Hopefully someone else knows, just keep an eye on the fluid level til you find out.

i think he's referring to a more groaning-like noise, from when u lightly apply and release the pedal, for instance u are facing down a hill and slightly let your foot off the pedal and u slowly begin to creep down the hill all the while your brakes are groaning really loud inside the truck, i've always wondered about that too, it never really worried me though, since i changed my brakes these crappy pads do it all the time

Can't help with your question, but I have a related one.

My trooper has always (for the last 10 years) squealed and groaned when the brakes are applied while the vehicle is traveling backwards.

I was under the impression this is a characteristic of 1st gen troopers. Anyone else have this?

The factory pad set helps with the moanin' and groanin'

Get a set from St. Charles Isuzu and shut them rear brakes up!

Yep, mine do the same thing. I assumed it was due to cheap pads and no anti-squeal applied to the back at the last change.
For the groaning I have no good answer except I've heard that type of noise in many different vehicles. Could be the pads chattering on the rotors just a little, noises like that have a weired way of traveling through the vehicle and getting amplified. If the noise is coming directly from the brake pedal area you could try applying some type of grease or other lubricant to all the pivot points.

Yepper, I had the same problem four years ago when I bought my 90, you need a set of pads for a 1991 (yes that's right 91 no matter what year your Troooper is) for a PICKUP( thats right again, a pick up) it's something in the composition of the pad, and it works, and best yet, they've been on there for about 50,000 miles, and still going strong!

My Trooper started making a creaking noise about 6 months after I bought it. My noise was comming from under the dash area but not everytime I would depress the brake pedal. I removed the brake pedal pivot bolt and the pin for the master cylinder rod, cleaned the assembly and re-lubed the bolt and pin and no more noise.

I have the same problem with my 91. I have tried all kinds of pads. No luck. I look at it as a reverse warning system like commercial trucks have.
