I did a 160a conversion on mine. About 3 months ago, I did it, then posted it with photos so you can probably do a search on it.

Others here will tell you to use the Starion unit which is either 70 or 75a but at best, a factory fresh unit will put out 65 on a good day with all the planets aligned.

Others will also say use some esoteric RX-7/Mazda Millenia or etc. alt but they are for car use and don't handle the cont. amps very well, get hot, and are very expensive to replace.

Make the bracket and put a good old GM/Delco whatever alt. in there (not to get into it Kary ) and that way, they are cheap, reliable, powerful, and ALWAYS avail at any automotive store in the country.

i heard a rumor that just putting a larger diameter pulley on your alt will increase the output... does this work? if so... wouldn't it cause other problems? electrical isn't my forte...

Max output, is just that. No pulley will change it. If you go to a smaller pulley, you may increase your output at idle. That will depend on the alternator, and how the regulater is designed, and of course, your idle speed. I have recently seen several Ford alternators off later Tempos, that appeared to be a bolt on, and are rated at 95amps. But 2.6 guy's check it out first, the stock alternator has an output wire to trigger the choke relay, and these may not. Just stay away from the GM CS 130 series, as they are not what they should be.

Have you looked into Jacobs Electronics? I think their alternators are designed to be bolted to anything, anywhere. Unless I'm wrong, the (unwired) stock alternator can be left in place. Or maybe I'm thinking of coils.
