Getting the Wheeling Fever

I have a 2000 limited with SAWS / OME HD springs & shocks. I have not removed the running boards. If I run BFG A/T 285/75 on stock 16 X 7 wheels will I have a rubbing problem? If so, where or what will the tires hit? I will be taking this truck to the limits as for as the tire travel will go.

You should be good on the terms of fender-well rub, but your tires will probably rub on your control arms unless you get some new ones.Mike at Xtreme Off-Road can get you some Total Chaos control arms that will take away any rubbing in that dept. I have ATS control arms but they have since gone out of business, but you can check here on the forum to see if anyone has any they would like to sell.Good luck!

You are most likely to avoid rubbing if you re-use the stock rims instead of going to 16x8's or whatever. You won't need new control arms. Those are entirely optional (I still don't have them). Some people have actually used a grinder on the tip of the upper control arms to give a little more space there. You will most likely need an alignment after installing the lift and before you can fit 285's without rubbing.
I don't know if you will rub on the front of the running boards since I never had running boards.
You will still likely need to hammer or cut the plastic cover and the metal of the pinch weld/body seam that's at the rear of the front wheel wells. Otherwise, you'll occasionally get rubbing when you have the wheels turned halfway and go over a bump or curb. You also might need to trim off just the tip of the front bumper that extends into the wheel well. And you'll need to remove one screw on each side from the rear wheel wells which holds the fender trim in place - otherwise that screw head will gouge into your tire tread on compression. None of this is very visible, so go for it.

I had no rubbing issue with stock rims and MT/R 285's. It was close, but it never did rub, even on a hairy trail.
Alignment is the key. Gotta have those cams cranked all the way out.
I have the ATS arms now, but I bought those for the improved ball joint angle. Well, that and the bling bling silver powder coat and red busings matched my SAW's...

Thanks for all the replies. My friend has a 2000 Tundra with the 285/75 on it. His is getting some rubbing and after 2 days of it he wants 265/75 now. Thought I would help him out and buy some 265's and do a trade. I just didn't want the same problem. I tried to talk him into a lift but he claims a lack of funds$$$. But he can't hide money if you know what I mean. He wears tailor made camouflage to hunt in ,go figure. Thanks for the help guys, I guess it's the 285's instead of 265's for me.
