There was just one for sale in the paper, it was an 87 turbo king cab with rough body strong engine for 2000$ I think. I wanted to go look at it just to see what they are like but it sold right away. Those king cabs are kinda ugly, the roof goes up like two feet and it's so long. I've thought about engine swaps but the thing is, I would only do one if the engine blew up. The engine in there now has only 25k miles on it and lots of mods. It does pretty well, just not as well as the turbo on the hills. All it needs to finish it off is a performance cam which I will be doing pretty soon. Also the reason I was thinking of swapping in a turbo motor is the fact it's a bolt in affair. No fabricated motor mounts or anything like other swaps. I guess I will just leave it be for now. I can always just get another truck and do an 3.4 swap at a later date.

Never seen one in a 4x4... only 4x2's... Huh... learn something every day!

As DirtyHarry said, mine's a 2wd. Give me some time to gather the funds and it'll be 4wd
(probably a D30 or D44 swap so I can keep the 5lug pattern)
As far as I know, Toyota only made them in 2wd format.
I've seen one of the super long trucks around town, but only once. I'd love to get a longer look at one of those

Why not swap in a 4WD rear axle and Toyota front axle with the larger pattern? I see sets for sale quite often, some with high steer, gears, and lockers already installed.

If you are going through all of the trouble and expense to convert to 4WD I would not recommend a Dana 30.

It probably would be a D44.
As for the lug pattern, I can't quite give up my sets of wheels (3 at the moment ) and start over.
one set in particular though, these:

- Yes I'm talking about the wheels, not my son
But by the time I actually am able to do the swap (enough funds), I may just do the F&R Toy axles.
I like the idea of keeping most everything toyota on my truck. Especially the important stuff like running gear
Only time will tell on that.

Has anyone put a 89-94 xcab cab on a 86-88 frame? Im not worried about the last two body mounts or the bed. Just the front four and the shifter location is what im concerned with.
Thanks, Matt

Yes, Paul Ryun did this with a 3rd gen Xtra Cab and a 2nd gen 4Runner frame. His e-mail is paul-mandy@sbcglobal.net.

The M series motors are direct bolt on and will offer a much better truck engine the a built 22r. not to mention you could swap it in for about the price of your current mods. The engine mounts are close enough that you will only need to make an adapter plate (2 hours if you are really slow and/or drinking too much beer)

Can you use the truck clutch assembly or do you need to use supra clutch and flywheel? Also how dificult is the wireing? Do you need supra computer and wireing harness too?
thanks, Matt

You will need the computer and harness. For the 5mge and 6mge(82-86) the computer is quite simple so just pull the harness, comp, complete running engine and strip down any wires you don't need and bolt it up for about 160-180HP with intake and 2.5 exhaust. THe 7mge is a more complicated computer system but same block as the 5m/6m so you will need to spend more time with the wiring but not too much more. Bolt it up and you will have 200+hp with intake and exhaust.
Now as for the clutch I don't have a lot of knowledge there but if I recal correctly both the R series and M series use the same clutch.
