I have 32x11.50 tires (31.8") and 4.30 gears now on my '99 4Runner V6 4x4 5spd. It now turns 3000 rpm at an indicated 70mph. By my calculations I should be really close to stock gearing now (stock was 3.90's and 225's).
What kind of rpm's are you guys turning?

At 70mph, my Runner did 2.2k rpm on (265-75-16). But not any more. The 4runner got wrecked on 8-31 nite. the Kids f ucked my baby up, they ran stop sign. My SC Runner last only 8 hours. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Are you sure you had 3.90 gears stock? The 3rd gens as far as I know mostly came with 4.1 or 4.3 diffs. Both of mine are 4.1, one auto and one manual. The E-Locker ones mostly came with 4.3. The Tacos mostly came with 3.9 gears.
Fill me in on what I do not know, did the 15" wheel trucks come with 3.9?

My stock 99 4X4 15" tires is about 2700 at 70 mph. That's about the same RPM that the harmonic occurs for the 6 cyl.

I thought the 15" wheels 4Runners came with 3.90's and the e-locker came with 4.10 or ,4.30 if you had the limited auto 4x4. Anyhow, I know I have 4.30's now, I counted the teeth before I bought the axle.

Not that 2nd Gen will really help, but I figured I'd throw my info in here as well.
I believe I've got 4.56 gears, and 31" tires, 5 speed, 3.0L.....I run ~3050 rpm at 70 mph.

Most 3rd gens with the v6, auto tranny, and 15" wheels had 3.90s. Most 3rd gens wtih the 4banger and manual tranny have 4.56s. I believe that 4.10s and 4.30s are mixed in the v6ers regardless of tranny/locker.

My 2000, V6, 5sp, 4.10 rear w/locker and stock 265/70 X 16 tires turns 2600RPM @ 70MPH.
As far as I know, the V6 trucks came with 4.10 gears for the 5sp models and 4.30 gears for the autos...

Checked the speedo by gps today. At an indicated 70 mph (3000 rpm), the gps read 75.6 mph. I was thinking (by doing the math anyway) that the 4.30 gears would get me almost back to stock gearing, but it appears not. Before the 4.30 gears, I ran 2700 rpm at an indicated 70 mph-did not check the speedo by gps then, but by math that would have been about 78 mph. Any thoughts, is this right?
