I didn't notice any power gains either.

I run a electric fan. I noticed my truck hardly ever even got to running temp (factory gauge). I thought about replacing the fan clutch but decided to go electric. I installed mine on the grill side of the radiator (some cutting required).

Benefits.
1. The fan only runs when needed (almost never).
2. Very easy belt replacement now (no fan in the way).
3. VERY slight increase in power VERY SLIGHT.
4. You can turn it off for water crossings.
5. More room under the hood for most engine related work.
6. Faster engine warm up.

I'm wiring up a switch so I can turn the fan off, have it run low and have it run high. It's partially installed now so I have low and off. After reading about running with the fan off, I wanted to see what would happen if I did that with my V6. After driving on the freeway for about 15min I got off at my exit and stopped at a couple red lights. I turned off the fan and the gauge didn't move. Later I finally got the gauge to move by sitting at my parking spot and reving the engine for about 20sec.

Of course it was only about 70deg out and I didn't idle at the red lights very long, maybe about 1min. So I guess the fan doesn't do too much unless under really hot conditions.

If you have to ask about a SAS, you're not ready for it.

Yep, I have a switch that goes both ways... (get your mind out of the gutter )

I just need a 40A relay to use. Then I can have a high and low. Just hope my alt doesn't explode....

I'm using (2) 40amp relays in parallel for a capacity of 80amps. From the Mustang page they said the high setting draws 40amps continous and a peak of ~130amps. You probably want some safety factor in there.

I will swap the 90A relay over to the high side and the 40 for the low. The relay I have right now is bout as powerfull as I could find. I was going to only use the high side until I found out how many amps my alt put out. Arg... It was the relay everyone reccomended for the high side.

it was also nice when i did my body lift to keep the radiator in its stock location with the electrick setup

if the stock thermatic ( ? ) hub on the fan is operating correctly, it only locks up when hot. so ,if you had the fan buried in anything less than near boiling water it should free-wheel and not cause to much problem. Usually when I hit deep water the fan throws water because the fan does spin (like a front drive-line on a rig with manual hubs and part-time 4x4 will spin some while driving down the freeway) but since the clutch is cool enough it lets the fan be stopped by the water.

not extactly, getting it really cold will make it lock up. While your truck is cold turn the fan by hand. There is resistance. Same deal when river crossing. I've heard some horor stories of fan blades braking and making a mess of belts and such.

I know this is an old one but I wanted update, 11.5 years later, the electric fan still works like a charm
