There is a nice tacoma near me for sale. However its a little to big for my tastes. Would anyone be interested in swapping shackles and tires, u-bolts, and uhm maybe you have a spare set of shocks laying around...

The reason I didnt put this in the 4sale forum is because I am looking for ideas on what to do to get this thing dropped a little, maybe back down to 31s.
Currently the truck is lifted about 4 inches, 2 coming from shackles and 2 coming from blocks. And riding on 33s. The front has a solid axle. back is LSD. Cheby springs all around

Your buying a SFA taco?? Cool, are you keeping the runner?

I would just keep in on 33s, thats not that big. What axle up front, Toy? It doesn't have blocks up front does it?

I'm going to be in Berkeley Springs this weekend, I'll give you a call.

Why would you even get a solid axle truck to put 31s on?

If you want to lower the rear just take out the lift blocks, though this might require new shocks and/or u-bolts (as you noted). I don't think that you are going to be able to lower the front to match though, particularly if the truck has high crossover steering on it.

I am not buying it... friend might.
Anyway. Because to use a truck, load, unload. I think its a little too high.
About not lowering the front, you might be right, but it looked to me like a different set of shackles would lower it down a bit.

So.. .Is that possible?

It is possible but it seems to me that a stock truck would work better for your friend. If you use shorter shackles in the front it will change your pinion angle, and more importantly your caster, and can have adverse effects on steering.

I'm in VA, so I am "local." I have the full stock Tacoma suspension and wheels/tires with less than 6k miles on them that I'd be willing to swap. Let me know if you pick up the Taco and want to work something out.

Dirty harry, can you tell me more about the steering issues. The reason this not so stock truck is interesting, is because he really does need a truck with these capabilities, however, not the height. Any other options for me?

The problem stems from the fact that Tacoma framerails are relatively straight, they do not curve up like the early solid axle frames. There is a "window" of space between the spring and the frame where the steering components pass. If you lower the lift you make the "window" smaller and may hit the frame or the spring on full compression. Hopefully the following picture will help illustrate what I am trying to say:

I do see, thank you.

Anyone have specifics on this. I guess maybe I need to go out and shoot some pics. Any other way to drop the front end down some?
