I had my local welder fab up an additional tow point for the rear of the Runner. Nothing as fancy as Steves shackle hangers, just a piece of angle-iron with a few holes in it to match the existing Toyota one that was back there. My question is about the bolts. I got 2 bolts from the junk yard but I don't know what grade they are.
As you can see I am hoping they are grade 9, but that looks more like a b than a 6 or a 9.

Thanx

Those could be metric grades. I think they use numbers and dots. I don't know the rating scale.

Standard grades use hash marks. Add 2 to the number of hash marks to get the grade I think. Beyond a certain number of hash marks (6?) They use numbers too.

Sorry I couldn't be of useful help.

Whoops, nevermind. Mt. Goat posted simultaneously.

Some bolt manufacturers occasionally also put some sort of symbol or logo on the bolt to say who made it. It mentions that at the bottom of this reference page:
http://www.unified-eng.com/scitech/bolt/boltmarks.html
So there's a slight possibility that the one on the right was simply manufactured on the planet Mars (for example).
