My guage only registers correctly when it's above 1/2 tank, anything below that and it jumps around from E to 1/2. I did a search but can't find anything on the Gen I and can't even find any place that sells a sending unit for it. My wife recently had a cleaning fit and misplaced my manual so i'm not sure if the tank needs to come off or if I can get to the float from above. Any ideas?

You can access your tank from above. Underneath your cargo area carpeting there is an access panel which you open to access your sending unit and fuel pump.

The access is on the front "side" of the tank for the SWBs (and GenI LWBs?). At least on mine it is. My GenII has the access plate in the cargo area to get to the top of the tank.

Need a Spot
I replaced mine as it was corroded at the electrical contacts. On-line Mitsubishi dealers have the part # MB527775 for about $27. Try for example Genuine Mitshubishi Parts.

Thanks all. Brad I might take you up on that when I get time for another road trip. As far as payment goes, can you make change for a 12 pack?

Thanks fasteddy. Brad let me know when you come up 75 and I'll meet you in London if you don't mind bringing it along. BTW, did the guy come pick up your 2.6 ? You can never have too many spares
