I'm not much on electrical things but I have some questions!What is the purpose of a relay on offroad lights?What would happen if you ran them without? THANKS Mike

Fire. That is what would happen if you ran without a relay.
Think of a relay as a remote switch. A relay is switched by a low voltage (and thus, low amperage) signal. These are the wires that go into the cab to the switch. The relay then throws the contacts to allow the higher amperage to flow to the lights. The heavier wires you use are shorter (less amperage drop) and the switch does not have to handle the full load of the accessory.
