Hey there. Ive been listening to my truck at idle for a while now and Iseem to have found where Im getting an unusually loud ticking. Its coming from the area between the Intake plenum thingy (says EFI) and the Valve cover. But its coming from below the hoses and crap. I cant tell. Anybody know where it might be coming from( something coming loose, some gasket is worn??) Thanks for any help. Later

I'd bet the farm that it is an exhaust manifold gaskit leaking ..............wait a minute, I don't have a farm, and it could also be a loose rocker arm, a loose spark plug, or even an electrical arc from a bad spark plug wire.

all this ticking talk. Is it the FPR?

So now I feel a little silly because I knew this was a newbie question to begin with. I used the tube and ear method and I'm pretty sure I isolated the ticking to the injectors. In fact, I didn't even need the tube because when I touched the fuel pressure regulator with my finger I can feel the ticking. It was a little disconcerting hearing that for the first time through the tube though, it sounds like something knocking which is kinda scary! I also put the tube on the valve cover and couldn't hear the ticking.

The part where I can feel the ticking is circled in green. [Linked Image]

I'm still kinda curious why I never noticed this ticking before. I could of sworn it wasn't there before. Oh well, thanks guys.

Well now, that there duma-flotchie looks like a fuel pressure regulator, and to be honest with ya, can't recall ever hearing one tick either. A little injector cleaner in the tank may quiet down a sticky injector, I hate to say it but I recomend the pricy stuff from toyota, please don't ban me for saying that.

Could also be the fuel injectors themselves.

If it's the injectors, like mine, then it's normal.

If you have to ask about a SAS, you're not ready for it.

1. Guys, if you notice his sig, and the description, he has a 22-RE, not a 3VZE.

2. I agree with Roger as well. Injector tick.

3. You can quiet noisy injectors by cleaning them. Try STP injection cleaner with 1/2 tank of gas. If this doesn't work, either live with it, or have them rebuilt.

you have a 4-banger, so the 3.0 pic isn't going to mean much. Sure it isn't your injectors? Mine are pretty ticky. Don't worry about it. It's normal. Mine actually got louder after they were rebuilt.
