I don't know squat about trailers, so I'm hoping some of you guys can help me out. I'm looking for a trailer that's at least 4' x 8' so that I can haul plywood, drywall and such when the need arrives. I will also use it for moving, which I will do at least twice in the next 2 years, since I'm in college and will change apartments and then graduate. Finally, I will use it for carrying motocross bikes.

Where should I look and what should I expect to pay? Thanks.

Tractor Supply carry them, they are pretty expensive tho. My friends he bought for his go cart few years ago was around 800 I believe.

I know up here that Wal-Mart, Costco and Canadian Tire all carry SnowBear trailers. I know more than a few people that have the model 8000 utility trailer($800 Canadian)they are very happy with. http://www.snowbear.com/html/8000.html

I bought a very nicely built new 5x8 foot trailer from a local builder in the area for $550.00.

Lights, fenders, tilt bed, treated wood flooring, single torsion beam axle... Recommend a 5x8 versus 4x8 foot as the cost difference is very little and the extra room makes it much easier to load 4x8 foot materials..

I've built one myself once before and having done it, it was cheaper to buy the one above than scrounge all the parts..

The torsion beam axle lets the trailer sit lower than one built using leaf springs.. This would make it easier to load stuff like bikes...

Get a trailer with 15" wheels. Anything smaller than that has too much rotation to it (the wheels that is) and wears out wheel bearings much too fast. Having a trailer wheel bearing seize up at freeway speeds can ruin your day, don't ask me how I know <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />...

Also, for carrying bikes, look for something with a removable ramp. I've carried up to six bikes on my trailer (6.5 X 12) and the ramp was an invaluable investment.

I would expect that you could get into a nice trailer for about $650 to $800, new, out the door. Those are AZ prices BTW.

I just built a trailer using the rear half of an 87 Toyota I had for parts. If you have access to a cutting torch, and a welder, etc. You might consider building one. (I think I paid about $200 all told for the materials, etc. to build my trailer.) If not, check local classifieds. I've seen this type of "pickup bed" trailer sell for $500 or less.

Depending on your future plans go for the biggest trailor you can find in decent shape as you will find more uses for it than orginally planned

I recently picked up a 7x18ft long trailor for 900 decent tires and all and in the past month hauled more junk I have been putting off getting ride of that I could have ever imagined my orginal use was to take my 1980 to and from places

good luck with your search check tire condition as well as type as trailor tires weather better than car or truck types do (Dry rot) also if you look at used check wiring condition as this can be a big pain as well as jack it up and check for play in the wheel bearings as this can add the cost as well

have a good search

If you are still interested in a trailer. I have a 5' X 8' utility trailer for sale, that is barely used. I used it a couple of times to move, then to haul soil. Now it just gives my hard top someplace to sit.
Check it out on my website:
