Getting the Wheeling Fever
85 4runner w/ 22re and fresh rebuild. My truck starts and runs fine but after driving for a few minutes when i push the clutch to stop it idels up and down for 1 -2 minutes before normalizing. it does not stall or race. it just seems like it cant find where it wants to be. I do not have a tachometer but do have an oil presure guage and it jumps from 20 - 40 and then finaly holds at about 35. any ideas?....Thanks B.Johnson

Are you pressing the brake while this is happening? If so, your idle speed is prbably too high. Turn it down, or look for air/vacuum leaks if it won't adjust properly. Check the cold-start injector to be sure it's cutting off when it should.

Mine did the same thing twice today. Had not done that before. I also have a fresh rebuild. Lasted 20 -30 secs. Ill let you know if I come across something. Let me know if you find something.

I would check that the Throttle Pos...s what tells the ECU to idle the engine. Also, check that the dashpot filter is not clogged. If so, the dashpot will close the throttle too slow and you'll get symptoms like that.

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />It's a small round thing that hangs from a vacuum hose by the throttle stop plate.My 87 didn't have one,but the 90 throttle body and plenum I swapped in did. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />If your facing the front of the motor, the cold start injector is on the right side of the plenum. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

Top of the intake plenum, look for the hard fuel line running to it, just above the white plastic idle-up adjusting screw in the picture below:
