Getting the Wheeling Fever
|
I have a 78 jeep wagoneer w/a 401 in it. the body is rusted out pretty good, the engine smokes, the carb needs rebuilt. I used it one winter to plow my driveway but went back to my toyota 4x4 pu. Don't what to do with it. Is there any market for a rig like this? I'd flip another body on it or even some other make body if it didn't get to crazy to do so. But then there's the motor burning oil, so I'm thinking it's probably time for the bone yard. Any thoughts? rj

Body Damage is Cool

Too bad she sounds so beat. I wouldn't have her hauled to the boneyard though. There is a market for parts off the Wagoneers, and many AMC folks would enjoy getting their hands on that powerplant. A friend of mine paid a little over $2500 for a non-smoking 401, for his AMX, when #3 rod found it's way to the pavement, through the block. The 401 isn't the easiest engine to come by anymore, and their value to restorers normally exceeds the value of the donor vehicle. Hope this info helps...Mike <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" />

If you are not going to keep it, post it for sale over on the International FSJ site. A 401 will go quick... http://www.ifsja.orgLawrence

I paid $700 a couple years ago for a '76 Cherokee that had a freshly rebuilt 401 in it. I'd say I just about stole it. Builder 401's can go for as high as $500-$750. Look around and see what others with similar vehicles are selling them for. I know there aren't a lot to compare with though.
