The owner admitted it was reg'd in 98 so it "became" a 98 which turned me off a little (tinge of dishonesty?)and because I had to drive all the way to Marikina to see it.
In fairness, the car was in very good shape (all that funky chrome on the door sidings! very '70s) considering its age. It had 89k on the odo but then again I'd be hesitant to pay 310,000 pesos for a car I can't insure.
Thanks guys for the info I'm going to see another gen 2 over the weekend. Let you know what I find.
BTW OTEP, has anyone figured out how to improve or upgrade the airconditioners of these import pajeros? They don't seem to get cold enough for our climate here in the Philippines.

Yes, it was quite dishonest to call a vehicle registered in 1998 as a '98 model. We're gonna register a '46 Ford soon but I ain't calling it no 2k3 model.
Php 310,000.00 is quite a sum for a GEN I considering that it is an ex-JDM conversion and an SWB. We sold our local LWB last year for roughly Php 200K only and it was in very good condition. Only the arrival or our Land Cruiser II prompted us to sell it.
You have to get the whole airconditioning unit that mounts under the dash. That includes the evaporator, blower, and the controls that lets you select which vents the air comes out from. Toyota LHD a/c's are pretty easy to come by. I just don't know about Pajeros. Most ex-JDM Pajeros still use the RHD a/c force-fitted under the LHD dash.

The 2.8TDI (4M40) is a great torquey motor and will propell a swb Gen 2 along very nicely. They pump out 92Kw/292Nm which is approaching torque levels of the 3.5 V6. It is a chain driven SOHC 2 valve/cylinder motor the block itself is virtually bulletproof and tough to almost extreme levels. Economy figures are around 11-12ltr/100K's on average. Turbo boost is around 8Psi and they have a fan cooled air/air intercooler. Properly maintained they will achieve 500,000Km's +, turbo life is around 200,000Km's before a rebuild is necesary. There are a few in my club with 400-500,000Km's and still going strong. A great package in a Gen 2 with super select t/case, factory rear locker and ABS.
I just luv my "clacker Jabber".................

Most diesels achive close to this figure. My '87 2.4 Toyota DoubleCab pickup started knocking in 450.000km with very poor maintainance and extremely hard use. I can still start her up. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
