The only "linkages" to speak of are at the pedal assembly and the rod pushing into the master, and at the slave where it pushes on the clutch fork, and then inside the bell housing where the fork pushes on the throwout bearing.

Have someone push the pedal while you look under the truck and listen to see whether the noise is at the tranny area, or inside near the pedal.

Make sure your clutch fluid is full too. If its low, then you have a leak that will need to be fixed even after you top it off because it will keep leaking. The master usually leaks on the inside of the firewall.

Since I have heard last week's squeek at other times in the past, I am doubtful that it is a cylinder leaking. I'll have someone actuate the clutch and hopefully I'll be able to see or hear where problem.

Thanks for the input so far! I'll let the forum know what happens.

I had the same problem, minus the squeak. I don't know if your clutch setup is the same as my 1st gen, but right where the rod goes through the firewall on the pedal, there should be a lock nut and an adjusting nut. Try tightening that, which will extend the rod, giving you more throw. Your clutch isn't engaging fully, at least mine wasn't.

... Once, there was a "click" when the pedal was nearly all the way depressed. Clutch master was leaking. ...

so was this 'click' you speak of related to the clutch master leaking. i noticed that my clutch started 'clicking' last week. there's a little bit of oil on the driver's kick plate...my master cylinder is leaking. where is it located so i can refill it. and it the clicking because it's low on fluid or is something broken? it's an old truck and i'm not ready to put a bunch of money in it to replace the master cylinder. i'd be really happy if i can just get away with refilling it.

On the master cylinder, it's part of the clutch reservoir assembly. You can buy a rebuild kit or assembly for under $50. Hardest part is putting the linkage back together under the dash (tight spot). I remove the lower dash piece for a little more room. Yep, it'll trash your carpet and your floor pad, and both cost a little more, so might be work the trouble to get in there and take care of it.

Another problem with this that I've seen once in awhile out there, esp if you're a heavy clutcher, is that the bracket on the firewall gets cracked, and THAT is what you may be hearing. Hope that helps a few of you!! Break out the flashlight.
