Need a Spot
Hey, New to the forum.
I was wondering if leaking rear and front main seals are a common problem?
I have a 95' 4-runner with the 3.0 V6 and 97,500 i think the rear main seal is leaking not bad yet. My dad also had a 92' truck with the 3.0 V6 and it developed leaks at around 100,000 miles. Could it be the oil lines instead? How do you check or should i just wait untill it drips enough for people not wanting me to park in their driveway?

The rear main seal is more prone to leak.

What you should do is clean/degrease the entire area. Drive it around for a few days and see where it is originating.

Valve cover gaskets also tend to leak in the back. Looking up from the underside, this leak often looks like it's coming from the rear seal. Tough to see from the top without a mirror or a long, flexible neck.

Just a recollection of another post on this forum a while ago. I think there is an oil cooler on the left side of the engine behind the oil filter that tends to leak. There are gaskets that can be changed to fix it if that is where the leak is.

Yep, kind of a dirty brass color on my engine. About the same diameter as the filter, but only sticking out an inch or so.

Yes, there is an oil cooler on models with A/T.
