I'm in need of a fuel filter replacement on my 89 4runner and once i finally located it, it looks like it will be a 'fun' job. Located under the intake, bolted to the block.
Any recommendations for the best method of changing it? Is it best to swap it from underneath or do i need to remove the intake to get to it?
89 4Runner, 5-speed, Rebuilt 22RE EFI, DOA C270 cam, Pacesetter Headers, 35x12.50x15 MT/R, 4" Superlift Susp, 3" Body Lift.

Much, much easier to do this with the manifold removed. I can be done with the manifold in place, but you need to know where all the bolts are ahead of time. You will also need some double-jointed wrists and stubby wrenches ;-)
A related question: does anyone know the part number for the filter off hand? I need to replace one and would like to order the replacement online, but can't find the part number.

23300-35030(Toyota)

Sounds like it's in the same place as mine on my 88' yota pu. I just took the wheel and starter out, only took a few minutes and the fuel filter was easy to get to, is taking the manifold off easier?!

FYI it is a "fun" job but when i put mine back on i just bolted it to the inner fender well where it will be SO much easier to access the next time

I just took the wheel and starter out, only took a few minutes and the fuel filter was easy to get to, is taking the manifold off easier?! *Sure its easier...providing the engine is out of the compartment and on a stand. LOL Biggest time saver on major work with these motors is to lift the head off with lower manifold still attached. I do what you do, through the passenger wheel well, but leave starter in place. nacho---agree with the others on going thru the fender.......Remove the rubber curtain inside the fender and then remove the 4 little screws that hold the "access" cover on. Then you should have decent access to the filter. Then use 2 band-aids!

I found it helpful to do mine when I changed the oil that way the oil filter was out of the way. I also jacked up and took the rt pass tire off. Made things quite simple.
1994 P'up, 22RE, K&N, LCE exhaust sys (header, cat, muffler, 2.25" pipe), 1" RB seat lift, 1" RB body lift, 1.5" rear lift via shackles, Rancho 5000's, 33" Pro Comp M/T's, 4.88's w/ Aussie lockers front & back
