Newbie in da house! I just bought a 95' 4runner #354199 11/27/03 06:37 AM

Well I found this BBS 2 days ago and I was hesitant to post because I didn't want to jump the gun. Well today I finally closed the deal and own a 95' 4runner! Got a real nice truck, super clean, paint is in excellent shape, leather is supple, 4x4 works good. What more can a man ask for? Ok...what do I need to look for as far as common problems? That is what I want to tackle first. Then I'll start with the upgrades. I've been searching the old posts and I've found a few interesting things.

Any suggestions would be appeciated!

Thanks

Well howdy! V6?

Here's an FSM you might want to bookmark: 94Runner CD It's got both the 22RE and 3.0 info in it, but would still give you some ideas if you have to go sparky chasin'.
Check and make sure all switches/controls related to the rear window etc work. Look underneath and make sure CV boots aren't cracked or torn.

Need a Spot
If your Runner is like most "factory fresh" 2nd Gens, it might have a bit of a saggin butt. Do a search for "rear coils" or "sagging"

Thank you guys, yes it is a V6, I am planning on running amsoil in the tranny I have an extra box in the garage, it does have a bit of sag as I have noticed most 2nd gen 4runners do. The belts look practically new. I took a quick look at the CV's before I bought it and I didn't see any torn boots at "quick glance" but, I have to investigate more. I checked all the switches and functions when I took it for a test drive and everything worked properly. I realize that these vehicles aren;t made to be taken out to the local drag strip but, what are the common upgrades that everyone does the boost HP and acceleration a bit? I'm going from a 5.9 Dodge Ram to the 4runner so it's quite a difference in power. But, I've had mid-size SUV's before so I know how they are as far as power with the exception of the GMC Typhoon back in the early 90's, which was a BEAST!

I'll try to take some pics and get them up. Oh, I have the G144 setup, from what I read it is a pretty good setup, but it also can't be re-geared. Am I correct?

Thanks again, please keep the suggestions coming!

Body Damage is Cool
So it's an automatic with factory 4.88 gear then.
You can end up with a runner like this...
It started out just like yours....right Leo?
