Getting the Wheeling Fever
My '91 4Runner supposedly has Rear ABS.
Whenever I start it up the little Rear ABS light flashes on then turns off, which I assume means they are functioning...
How can I tell if the ABS is working?
I've never felt them pulsating, even when braking hard.
My brakes seem to lock up very easily in wet weather conditions.
Part of this is due to my very worn tires, but shouldn't I at least feel some sort of brake pedal pulsing or something if ABS is working and brakes are locking up?

Body Damage is Cool
I was on a snow covered road a little while ago and I wanted to see if I can feel my abs so I slammed on my brakes. I barely felt the pulsing through the brake pedal. So, it's actually pretty hard to feel it but I'm pretty sure it's working. You might be hearing the fronts lock up.

If you have to ask about a SAS, you're not ready for it.

Roll Me Over
on mine, you can feel that sucker working.

remember, it works ONLY while you are in 2wd. once you shift into 4wd, it is disabled.

also, check your prop valve level in the rear axle, it could out of "alignment" so your fronts are locking up without the rears ABS'ing...

also, it's only for the REAR wheels... not the fronts...

Roll Me Over
I've felt the pulsation in 4wd on a snow covered road and in the dirt before. I don't believe that the system turns off but it is the 4wd that prevents it from working.

That was before it was permanently disabled.... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Yep the little light coming on then going off when you start the motor is supposed to mean that the ABS is functioning.

Here in Phoenix it doesn't get too slippery so mine is unplugged. Come to think of it I was fine at the Snowbowl in Flagstaff last winter. If the `91 and `94 systems are the same then the online `94 FSM should have a complete system checkout procedure. I don't have the link for the FSM handy but you should find it on this board or yota. Good luck.
