Well, I used to post in the Northeast section when there was one and occasionally in the Nissan section but I recently bought an '85 4Runner and have a whole new learning curve. I figured I'd introduce myself before asking all the questions I have. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

The truck is an '85 4Runner with a 1987 22RE engine I got on Ebay. When I bought it it had a 5" Rough Country suspension lift, 3" body lift and 33X15.50X15 Super Swampers on 15x12" rims and looked like this with the visor, etc..:


I have more pics on my site of what that looked like and what it looks like now.
I drove it home from Lynchburg VA like that, vibrating my teeth out and deafened from the cracked ex manifold, loose pipe and straight pipe -to Y pipe-to dual chrome tips exhaust.

The front springs aren't too bad, although fairly stiff, but the rear springs are pretty scary. This shows the lift block under the spring pack, as well as the cut down trailer-home spring he added to level it with the front.


For financial and urgency reasons, I guess I'm going to replace that whole rear pack with Pro Comp 4" spring packs and a 1" shackle asap, unless I can come up with a better plan soon.

I painted it, replaced the 3" bl with a 1" bl, put on my 32x11.50's for now, put on an old stock manifold and exhaust my friend had, and here is what it looks like now:


The mod plan roughly in order is to put some 33x12.50's for now, rear springs, front bumper, exhaust, crossover steering, rear locker, more armor, regear to 5.29, dual tcase, 35's, etc...

So would you be interested in getting rid of your 33X15.50X15 Super Swampers on 15x12" rims.

FYI, 35x15.5 SX's are frekin nasty tires(if you let them sit for a few days you dont even need a parking brake, why? bc they arent round! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />). anyway, i remember seeing this 4runner on ebay, of course they left out everything you have described. i like your future list of mods a lot, it will be very functional. change the rear springs, cross-over, 35's and 5.29's with a rear locker is a great list. you will have a great DD/trail toy. my $.02
oh ps, look into the chevy rear spring swap.

That story about picking up the patrol was great... Reminds me of my dealings with U-Hell when I blew my engine. The entire weekend sucked.

Micky - I've been planning on taking pics and putting them up for $350. The tires are about 1/3 but I want to measure the tread and take a pic to be clear.

Little Joe - I just got the Runner and sold my Volvo and once the dust settles getting the Patrol running is next. It needs a fairly rare engine but I have a lead on one or two. There's some writeup and pics on dogwater.net. Depending on how things go I may need to sell my Hardbody first and it needs some attention.

Bluerunner - you're right about the SX's - they were a pretty bumpy ride but did even out once they warmed up. They were just too wide for my taste but the Runner turned them surprisingly well with 4.10's

Yeah, Shad bailed me out big time when the Patrol went and also when my Hardbody lost a wheel on the highway and I was too jangled to take action. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

damn, you've done a bit of work on that 4runner. i remember seeing that 4runner on ebay. for a temporary fix on the rear springs, flip the overload spring back to the correct position. you will lose lift but the ride will improve 100%.

btw, nice 4runner.
