Need a Spot
Hey all,

While under the truck to adjust my rear brakes last night, I went ahead and cranked the torsion bars a bit. I didn't go nuts with it, just enough to gain ~3/4". Now I only have about 3/8" between my upper bumpstops and the arm. It felt fine out on the highway, but my question is, is that enough space or do I need to trim the stops? I'm wondering mainly about safety on the road. I don't do any hard wheeling; the rig just takes me through the snow and occasional jeep road to where I ski and climb (hence the need for clearance).

Thanks!

After cranking my T-bars about 1.5 inches, my truck would continue to bounce after an intitial bounce, especially at higher speeds. I trimmed the upper front bumbstops down to about one-half their original height/thickness. Doing so eliminated the re-bounce. The job only took just over an hour; not a big deal.

Do a test drive on a uneven country road where you would reach near-freeway speeds. If you notice any re-bounce, I would suggest trimming.

Thanks! Just what I needed to know.

BTW, what's the preferred method of trimming those puppies? Grind? Saw? Sorry if this is a tired old subject; I don't seem to be too proficient with the search engine yet <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

iirc, I took 'em off and threw them in a vice, then used a hacksaw. It was pretty easy.

I replaced mine with Energy Suspension bump stops new for $12 from Auto Zone. They are stepped like the old DEVO hats; you trim them as little or lot as you want.
