I should have done it 7 years ago, but didn't. Now I want to pull the ISUZU letters off the tailgate of my P'up. What's the best way to do this without damaging the paint?
If you go to the Zoo, always take something to feed the animals - even if the signs say "Do Not Feed The Animals". It wasn't the animals that put up those signs!

you can get a hair dryer or a spot light and heat small parts of the decal and slowly peel it off, it's going to be hard if the sun has baked on and cracked the decal, but when you get it off the paint under the decal is going to look newer than the paint around the decal due to weather. what i would do is use a rubbing compound to blend in the two tones, but u will be able to notice it still just not as bad, then when your done with the compound use a good car wax to kind of seal it.

Yeah it will be tedious but I would use a hair dryer to heat and remove the decal. Then use Goo Gone to remove any adhesive left behind. But like Dan said you will have like new paint under there and the rest of the tailgate will be faded. Good luck.

There is a tool for this. If you stop in to your local sign and graphics shop, you should be able to get one. I got one free from my graphics shop. It's a disposable plastic deal.

Before buying any goop remover, I would consider simple isopropyl rubbing alchohol. If a substance isnt water soluble it is most likely alchohol soluble. Im not talking beer though, I mean rubbing alchohol.

I've heard that a hair dryer and a piece of fishing line work well for this. Heat it up and run the fishing line behind it to separate it from the paint.
Just another .02 for the ante...

Lighter fluid works well for dissolving the gummy adhesive left behind. That's what we used in the sign shop I used to work in to get pin stripe adhesive off before applying lettering to the Police cars. The hair dryer is the best place to start. You should be able to work a corner free and pull it off by hand slowly as you heat it with the hair dryer, then put lighter fluid on a terry cloth rag to remove the adhesive... You will have to be generous with the lighter fluid, and turn the rag frequently since the adhesive goos up the rag pretty quickly.

Hey,
My family owned and founded signs now in the denver metro area for 20 years. to remove old factory stuff buy the 3M woodgrain ashesive remover. its a two can set with that and adhesive remover. youll let it set for about 5 minutes. Go to a local signs now and ask for a "Lil' Chisler" its like a small squegee. you can remove anything with this combonation, including badge foam, and the 2 ply paper rear isuzu logo. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
