Well it sounds like something to really (not) consider if, as it sounds, there's no discernable difference between having this system function or having it completely removed and disabled. I'll likely remove the whole plenum assembly when I replace my plugs, wires and coils, rather than take it apart to replace the lower plenum, then. Mine's safely taken care of.
Just to be clear, though, for those of you that have had the system both functional and not, there was no difference in low to middle torque? No difference in mileage?

I believe OldColt said he did notice a difference when towing he said it felt like it could of used more torque. For me, my 3.5 doesn't seem to have a problem, but I will just replace the worn out bushings regardless.

And some people cant notice if they have a dead cylinder, bad brakes or a slipping transmission.
Same goes for the balance shaft eliminators. Some dont notice a difference, others do.
I remember doing a test drive and mentioning to the owner that he had no rear brakes. He was sure I was kidding, because to him his car seemed just fine. After he got them fixed he still didnt notice the improvement.

After he got them fixed he still didnt notice the improvement. just have him stop on some wet Icy road.... I changed out my lower intake. Was About 400 total for parts. And the rare occasion I get the truck over 3000RPMs I think you can really feel it. Plus mine had such bad air leaks it ran like crap. Plus now I don't worry about some lil loose nut/screw ripping through my motor. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

When I was a Nissan Service Advisor, I once had the Nissan Factory Rep tell me "Parts that the manufacturer doesn't put on a car don't cost anything to manufacture, engineer, or install, they never have to be stocked by the parts department, and they never cause warranty repairs."
While I do occasionally question the common sense of the Mitsubishi engineers, I don't question their abilities. I'm fairly certain that if the variable intake system didn't provide a benefit to the way the engine ran, they wouldn't have produced it.
