Anyone in the Austin area? I need to see if I could borrow a ecu for my 86 4Runner to help troubleshot. 85 to 87 will work.
I went through a deeper than expected mud/ water hole a few days ago. And yes the ecu got submerged in muddy water. I wired a toggle switch to the cold start injector to get home. So it is getting fuel and spark. The injectors are not working. I went through all the conectors on the harness as well as grounds. opened the ecu case and cleaned with a q-tip. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> Thanks, Frank

Now I'm wondering if my ECU is bad. I set the jumper to check the codes When the key is in the on position I get a one blink code = normal. I start the motor and toggle the CSI on, it will run and I get a one blink code = normal. The moment I put my foot on the pedal I get a code 11= (1.AC switch, 2.TPS, 3.TPS curcuit 4. computer). When I toggle off the CSI it dies and the code is not stored. There is fuel pressure and spark. Injectors just have no pulse
any EFI gurus want to take a shot?

Since the ECU got wet, and is the sole controller of injector opening...I suggest you track down an ECU to swap in and see if it works then. If you dont know anybody locally that has a truck with similar ECU, maybe try a boneyard, see if they will let you test with one theirs. Could always offer up $10 or something with the offer to buy it if the test ECU works. Other than that, I dont know what to tell you to try... ~Darin <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

Nope, 89' is a different system all together. Toyota switched in 88' and anything after 88' would be a gamble I wouldnt take personally. Call around and see what yards have and if they are jerks about it...put on your actors hat and play like Tiny Tim etc. but please suh...lol ~Darin <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

Thanks but I may have found a 87 22re ecu in the for sale section. just waiting on price <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> I have carpet and seats out of it right now. Its all drying out. For now I'll drive my old 85 pickup and park the 4Runner while I get this worked out. Oh now that I have the carpet out I can sound proof the cab with insulation under the carpet
Thank for all the help!!
Frank

If whoever is selling the 87 ECU gives you a hell high price...remind them that its the holidays. Hell if this woulda happened earlier in the year I would have given you the ECU from my 87 4Runner. Sure they are a PIA to find, but they do exist. And dont rule out the wrecking yards. Can also try carparts.com for a used one.
For soundproofing this is the best time to do it. Post a new thread asking people about "Brown Bread". I think thats what it is called anyways...not real cheap but it is meant for this purpose. ~Darin <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/baby.gif" alt="" />

J-me4runner is the one parting out the 4Runner parts sounds like he's giving fair prices. I'm sure he'll get back to me soon.
I used 1/2" house carpet padding on my fj80 last year, free and it works great. thanks for your input Darin. Frank
