Ok, with a new set of 'proper' tools for christmas - I am really ready to dig into my truck for myself now. Well, sure, with a little help <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

SO - my first project is this - My '95 4x4 A/T 3.0 is loosing power, missing and backfiring. It idles a little rough but not to noticeable. It will actually backfire when adding power at cruising speed to go up a hill.

I have about 194K miles on it and a tune up was done at about 184K. Plugs, wires, fuel filter, rotor - blah blah blah. What I know: at the tune-up apparently cyl. 6 had a pretty messed up plug and a bad wire - I would imagine this is a good place to start, as I know I have some valve guide seal issues. The TPS checked out ok then, and compression was around 170 +,- for each cylinder, no vacuum leaks that I can tell. What is a good way to check for this? I thot maybe the EGR? Again I am not too sure how to test this. I currently do not have access to a timing gun - BUT I do have a multi-meter. Any tips would be much appreciated.

OH yeah - so as I am checking plugs and such - I was looking for the plug gap - so .8 mm or .031 in - correct? Should I use anit-seize? How 'bout fuel injector cleaner? Good idea - good, better, best?

Thanks for all your help - Soon, manual hubs... LOL
