On my first wheeling trip with my "new" 4Runner, I hit a nasty rock while playing in some ice and bent the tie rod (1985). So, of course I need to get it aligned, for the second time in 7 days . I am hoping it can be brought back into alignment even with the bent rod, but does anyone know if there is anything else I need to pay particular attention to in checking for breaks, cracks, bends....regarding the front suspension/steering? The impact was great enough to chip a good chunk of my wheel off, blow the steering stablizer, and swing the truck around 90 degrees in a heartbeat.....tipping it up on 2 wheels and almost laying it on its side in the process. It was quite a ride......

You need a new tie rod, you cannot realign the vehicle with the bent tie rod. Once it is bent the strength has been greatly compromised, even if it is straightened. All-Pro or Rockstomper can set you up with a heavy duty tie rod, or you can likely find a stocker from someone who has converted to Hysteer.

I'm all for strength, like a heavy-duty tie rod BUT .....
if axledeep was running one at the time of his incident,
what would have happened ?
He could have broken a tie-rod-end, or steering arm,
whatever the weakest point is
At least he could drive it home with just a bent tie-rod.
I ran a slightly bent one for years with no problem.
The FSM shows how to correct the toe-in, don't need to take
it to a shop. Don't need perfection for wheeling.

Just my .02 cents worth.
