His conversion harness is $699 on his site. I'm no wiring wizard, IMO its most definately worth it to me to buy a plug n play harness that takes all the guesswork out of it. No wires to chase, no problems to track down, no need to test and retest. Just plug it in cause someone else has already figured it out for me.
I think that I may start looking more seriously at this, its a great way to keep reliability and get a bunch more power.

Need a Spot
wow - ok after a year of searching out my options with my 3.0 (thanks to all y'all) - now this. I have a leaky rear main seal, and Cyl 6 is soggy with oil from a bad valve guide and coolant is disappearing without a trace - gas mileage is down to 16. What I thot I could put off till 220k + miles looks a lot closer (I am at 195k) This is all just in time. Now I need to dig in a different direction.

Yeah I would wire it myself too, and if I ever get around to it I would leave complete write-up,,,wire color codes, pictures, all materials, etc.but I need a donnar truck to begin with perferably a T100 4x4.

Anyone near Iowa have a rolled or rustedd heap???I have friends that haul classic cars from california to Iowa a few times a year,,,and they would like to offset the cost of the ride out hear.they could haul up to 3 or 4 cars in a trip.

how much would any of you pay for someone to make the wiring harness for you? for either the 1st gen or 2nd gen. 4runners. and even trucks.

we're seriously thinking of providing this service for those who want it.

whoever wants this service done will need to send both the 3.4 harness and the 3.0 harness. swaps with manual transmission setups will cost less, while automatic setup which require more wiring work, will cost alittle more. the complete harness will be returned, ready to install.

we can also mod your 90-95 4wd auto trannys for better shifts, and do some modifications for the speed sensor in the tranny to read correctly with the 5vz computer. but this requires you to ship the tranny to our shop.

I guess I'll wait and see how much ORS will be charging for their goods.......

Roll Me Over
If you want to make a business out of it, get the connectors and crimpers to make the harness yourself. People are very much more likely to pay for turn key products than if they have to do their own footwork... or at least pay a lot more.

from what I understand, I believe ORS also asks for both the 3.0 and the 3.4 harnesses as a core. they may or may not use your wires to make the harness.

I'll be offering both harnesses for mamual tranmissions and also auto transmissions. the automatic harnesses have more wires that are necessary than the manual harness.

its better to have the original harnesses from the 2 vehicles in order to construct the harness. the harnesses will be made according to the specifications of the swap, wiring maybe different from year to year.

we will test all the connectivity of the wires before we construct the harness, so that we do not get a damaged harness as a core.

You didn't read my post closely. Also, the kit includes much more than the harness. Mike is feeling out the market, really, and seeing what parts can be left out (to save you $$$) and what parts people are willing to pay for to save effort, and how much, and if its worth his time.

Hey, wish you the best on the harness endeavor, the more the merrier!
Compete, absolutely.
Post for free, you bet.
Dis, don't do it.
I know Mike and he is completely on the up and up. Good guy, good innovator, trying to make a living doing what we do for fun. Keep that in mind. TeamShiftPoint, not directing this at you in particular, I just get tired of folks saying "Geez, what a ripoff, its only wires, how hard could it be?" I know you aren't saying that, I assume you did a quality job, but for posterity... I used to work quality on the electronics line at our local rocket ranch and I can tell you, clean weathertight traceable vibe-resistant ultra-reliable harnesses are harder than they look. In fact, making it look simple, clean and easy is part of what makes it so hard. Mike does top quality, honest work and he has my support because of it. Marlin does too. So do some others.

Specifics:
As mentioned by this charletain <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/pfft.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/oink.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />you need to contact Mike Caskey. Why? He is a pretty busy guy who doesn't sit in front of a computer for a living like most of us seem to <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />.

So if you call him, and say you heard a rumor (from me if you want to say it), and what parts of it are true, how much is he thinking, and you are suddenly interested... he gets highly motivated, which works for him and us too. KnowwhutImeanvern? Of course, money talks, used oats walk.

I would imagine that the biggest change in expense involves the transmission since the W series will not bolt right up to the 5FZE. It is probably almost a wash though if you need to buy an adapter for a R150F to a gear driven transfer case...

Its also likely the tranny/engine need to be moved forward about 3" in the first gen. My aim is to not do so, and use a fan spacer. We'll see. The tranny issue can easily be solved (as you say) with either the R150 or the auto that came with the donor truck, or in my case an R151 to mate with my crawler. The Marlin adapter actually would move the tranny forward satisfying the forward move of the motor. Many ways to skin that cat.

The 3.0-3.4 swap is much easier than the 22RE-3.4 swap. Anything is doable.
