Thanks for all the suggestions, it just so happens we got a shipment of stuff from mcmaster at work today and one of the boxes was the perfect size. I built a bottom support with 2x4 and packed it with paper so I should be good to go.

Lou,
I was unaware that the "USPS" would even take anything like that.Every mailman I've ever talked to always tells me I'm glad I don't have to handle all the big $#!+!!!LOL
Dok,
The 2x4 on the bottom is fine, but what happens when it gets tipped on it's side?I'm sure the paper won't support it.That may work for across the state but I doubt it will make it across the country. How far do you have to ship it?

I've received 2 and shipped 4 in cardboard boxes w/ wood bottoms. Pack the sides w/ cardboard to make a multi-wall box and maybe strap the diff to the wood. Never had any problems.

Well, you actually have to take it into the post office and stand in line . Well, at least where I live there isn't much of a line there (reason # 652 why I left smelLA .)

After 9/11, anything over 16 oz must be brought in to the post office.
