Ok I have read all the stories here about the sound the tensionor makes when it goes bad...but I about soiled myself yesterday when mine went bad. I was returning home from VA Beach to Lynchburg VA (about 3.5 hours). As I was pulling into the driveway, I turn down the tunes for the first time in 3.5 hours and heard the loudest knocks from under my hood. It was honestly worse than the noise when a friend and I threw three rods through the bottom end of a 3000 GT (rods stuck in asphalt). Quickly shut it down and check several things. After about 30 mins of basically staring at it I decided to start it up. Same sounds then remember reading that around 2300 rpms the sound would stop if it was the tensionor, so rev it up and wow it stop. So I'll be ordering some parts.

Thanks for the heads up everyone...2 years ago I would have towed it to a shop.

Good to hear it's just the tensioner. Easy and fairly cheap, as opposed to the other option.

Mark,

Hmmmmà I think I somehow missed ever seeing that part about the noise going away at 2300+ RPMà

Thanks for posting-up! --- Seeing as how IÆve already earned myself a reputation for acting like a ælittle old ladyÆ, just when it comes to minor noisesà I can only imagine what IÆd act like with something that loud (especially if I had no freakinÆ clue what was causing it)! --- At least now I might stand a chance of figuring out whatÆs wrong. --- THANKS!

Given your other recent post, I sure hope this latest development doesnÆt put a damper on any of your modification fun! --- Good luck!

Cheers!
