Okay,
I am going to be swapping in an AW4 from a Cherokee along with a 4.0. I know that 91-95 will work with my wiring (OBDI) but will a transmission from a 1996 (OBDII) to present work? What mods will I have to do to make them work?

my not so educated guess is no, becasue obd1 was different than obd2. you would need to grab the computer for sure to get it to work.

Nice links! I don't really need info on the 4.0 just how to wire the AW4 into my CJ harness, the lock-up converter and how its controller hooks up. Thanks for the help. I'll tell you what, when I get mine going I'll give you anything you need; pics, write up, opinions, cost. And visa versa. dclark25@tampabay.rr.com <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I am going to get an AW4 that is froma 1991 or newer so that I'll have the 23 spline output shaft and not have to change that out to fit my Dana 300. I'll only have to get the retainer ring for proper spacing. So, I don't think the '89 diagram will work with my application but go ahead & send it over, might be able to use it for something.
