Okay, I am looking for some manuals on my Jeep. I have a 1983 CJ7. I want one on that.

I also am swapping a 4.0 froma 1993 Cherokee. I want one for that too. They need to include wiring diagrams for the engine compartment and torque pounds for engine bolts and other misc. bolts.

So, which is the best?

Chris

1. Factory Service Manual
2. Chiltons
3. Haynes

In that order.

I got my FSM on Ebay for half the price they are new. There's a couple of places that sell reprints so they are available. The 83 is suppose to have a supplement but I never got that so I don't know what's in it.

my haynes manual for my cherokee sucks, and the newer chilton manual ain't much better. the older chiltons are much better (my good chilton is for 84-90 cherokee). i also have the dealer manual (bought off ebay) and its even better.

I have the haynes, chilton and the factory shop manual for my 97 xj. There is no comparison to the quality of the factory shop manual. The pinout of every plug, wire color codes, splice points in the harness. You name it. From an electrical standpoint, I don't see how you could beat it.
2 1/2 inches thick, covering 1 model, 1 year. Tracing down 1 electrical problem makes it worthwhile.
I paid $90.00 for mine new from Chrysler, if I was patient, I'm sure I could have got it cheaper.

I have all three for my 83. Just let me know what you want and i can scan it and email it to you. Eventually i want to scan it all in...Send it to the Jeep site builder mentioned in a previous post. But let me know. I dont have any problem scaning in and sending. As long as you dont have a problem downloading them on your comp. But let me know what wiring diragram you want. Or do you want em all? If so let me know and i will get it done asap(sunday more than likely) and send em off to ya sound like a plan? cool

I'll tell you another source that is good. I love going to the flea market and yard sales. I found a couple of excellent books, One on Engines and the other a Chrysler written book on the 258.

Check those sources out too if you get a chance.

Thanks for the ideas guys. deranged, I would love to have all of the wiring, but it's not necessary I just need the pinouts for the fuse block on the engine side. Again if you want to send it go right ahead it is greatly appreciated. Just don't want you to be scanning all day long....

If your going to all of that expense of a swap, why not spend a few bucks on a service manual? You'll get the wiring manul with it.

deranged, no problem. Take your time there is no rush as I have some other things to take care of before I complete all of my swaps. Here is the current state of my 4.0 and Jeep:
