is $30 and a couple hours drive a good deal for a 48" highlift? is that overkill size? i never had one before

48" is bare minimum length to get. With any sort of lift, a 60" is very useful, especially off-road. Been pretty colse to the top of mine on a few ocassions. Lots of folks do run 48" jacks and they are still useful.

Depends on where you are going to get it. I was able to get mine from TrakAuto up here in Maryland. SOme people are getting good quality knockoffs from Tractor Supply for that price.
Unless you are driving to the nearest retailer, I would not drive that far for one. Especially if it is used.

well, just way the pros and cons. A 48 inch hi-lift costs what, an average of around 50 bucks online. I'd rather be lazy and spend the extra twenty bucks than drive 2-3 hours to buy a jack. On the other hand, I'd drive crosscountry to buy a mint '85 4runner.....
