Who has OME shocks/springs (need shock reccomendations.) #400839 02/16/04 10:56 PM

After doing a bit of research I think the most appealing shocks are the OME's but they are a bit pricey. If I'm doing their shocks I might as well do the rear sping lift as well. Anyone have first hand experience w/ this setup? Pro's and Con's?

Someone has a set of used OME shocks for 150. They are two years old...Would buying these be a bad decision? How long do these shocks typically last?

Also, how are Monroe shocks? They are really cheap, but I've heard some bad things about them.

I liked my OME shocks very much...and regarding longevity, I had them for about 50K miles before my Trooper went away, and they were still going strong...I felt no need to replace them and I am pretty sensitive to shock performance.

First, welcome the 4X4Wire. You have me guessing a bit because we know nothing about your rig. One thing that I find helpful is if people include a minimum amount of info in their signature, say your vehicle model and year, perhaps the engine type as we represent quite a range of vehicles and options here.

That said, I run a '91 Trooper with a spring upgrade in the rear and OME shocks. I love the shocks. I broke two before I realized that I was missing my bump stops and had always been missing my bump stops, at least that is my story and I am sticking to it.

Since you are indicating interest in the shocks, I am guessing that you are driving a 2nd Generation Trooper (newer than 1991), so you have coil springs in the rear, as opposed to we old-timers who have leaf spring rears (my vehicle also has leaf springs).

yeah, sorry about that. I have a 96 Trooper, w/ the 3.2L V6. So yes, 2nd gen. Am I going to need to replace bump stops, or anything else w/ a shox/spring replacement?

No, you just need to assure that you do have bump stops.

My OME shocks are about 2 years old and are still working well, but I think it really depends on usage. I like the OME shocks/springs setup over the stock.

Good that I came across your message. If you decide to go with the OME springs, I have a brand new set of OME912 that you can have for free. The owner of the auto shop I go gave to me, saying I might find better use for them. Well, I already have them, and my attempt to find someone locally failed, so I was just about to post a messagee here. If you can really use them on your Trooper, it's great.

It'd be nice if you can pick up (I live in So. Cal), but I can ship if you pay for the shipping cost. Or, I can ask someone to bring to Moab 'ZuZoo in May if you know someone in your area going there. If interested, send me a PM.

Thats a steal! $150 new

I have Old Man Emu Nitrocharger shocks and 912 coil springs. They are fantastic as far as I'm concerned.

If I were going to build another trooper it would definatly have the same shocks and springs.

I hope someday to do a 4-link SAS with OME springs.

I also use OME shocks and springs but since it's on the Amigo they are leaf springs.

So far I love them, I've had them for a year and they did great on Moab last May, huge improvement over stock and I like them much better than the Rancho 5000's I had on there.

If you decide you don't want those "free" springs for the Troop, feel free to pass them my way. just got a '93 RS that could sure use them <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
(yes I know, in my dreams, no one in their right mind would pass and that deal)

Enjoy the OME's

I have OME 912 springs and firm nitrocharger shocks on my Trooper. They made a huge improvement over stock. The truck rides like a truck now instead of a marshmellow. This is a great combination for the Trooper and I highly reccomend it.
