85 22re new header dosent have a port for a o2 sensor. but it runs great with out the sensor removed. do i need it? what can i expect if i leave it off?

with out the 02 sensor, I would expect the check engine light to come on. And If u have smog checks it probably wont pass.

i dont have to smog test. will i use more gas or loose power or any thing that matters on the trail

The o2 sensor just tells the computer if the engine is running rich/lean. So you'll probably loose some mileage, and in a worst case senario, you could run lean and start detonation.
The engine will run alright, but I wouldn't stress it too much

You're running the wrong header... Either running an early 22r header or a non-cali late 22r. I'd definitely run an 02 sensor, w/o it you're running in open loop and VERY, VERY rich...

Well, it depends. If the ECU knows the O2 is out to lunch it may revert to base mode and you'll give up some power- maybe. But I'd be worried that it will run way too rich and cause some bad cylinder/ring wear.
Personally, I'd get an O2 bung welded on it and reinstall the O2 sensor just to be safe.
