 Logging in takes you back to the main index

Why does logging in take me back to the main index? Shouldnt it keep you where you are and just log you in ? Sometimes I like to lurk a little b4 logging in. But then when I do find a subject I would like to add to, logging in takes me back to the main index and I have to find where I was again.

When you log in, your preferences are invoked - so if your start pref is the main index, that is where you go. There is no correleation between when you are not logged in and when you are - the system "sees" you when you log in, it can't possibly know it's you and associate the sessions when you're not logged in.
