blower fan not working on two low speeds #401416 02/17/04 08:23 PM

I've heard on here that the low speeds going out on the
blower motor is due to a resistor pack. Where the heck
is this thing? I dug all around under the dash on
the passenger side. I found the relay above the blower
fuse to the left of the glove box and another relay behind
the ECU on the passenger side wall, but no resistor pack
yet. If anyone has pics of this thing that may help me
find it. Untill then it's two coats of hair jell and high
speed for my defroster .

Indy

I have the same problem. Only speed that works for me is "tornado". Any info on the fix would be appreciated!

Body Damage is Cool
On 1st gens and I think 2nd also, it's in the main duct from the heater core. Just look for a harness going to a connector. 2 screws hold it in. When removed it looks like 3 small coils of wire. If I remember correctly it's om the drivers side on a 1st gen.

check the heater relay, it may be not conducting...

My low speed didn't work when I got my truck.I was able to find a spring the same size as the low speed coil.I soldered it in place and bingo! It worked!

Getting the Wheeling Fever
It sounds like I have a similar problem. When I got my truck it had high and low, the two speeds in between where low as well. I lost the high on a ski trip. Really could have used the defrost. Anyway I thought it might be the switch in the dash. Is this a bad place to start? Should I look at the resistor pack first?
Thanks

Zak

Replaced my resistor pack this weekend.
$13 at Toyota dealership. I now can have
all four speeds once again. I believe if
you don't have high speed, looking at
either the switch or motor would be a good
place to start as high speed doesn't use
the resistor pack at all; it's straight
current to the motor. Good Luck.

Indy
