As for the hummer and diesel questions.. Those engines do not require an electrical system to continue funtioning. As long as fuel is still pumped (engine driven fuel pump?) it will still run. The guy in the snorkel video could have totally sizzled every electrical component in his rig and driven away happily (with no lights, stereo, etc, etc). The engine might run bad with no ECM helping it manage but the essentials for combustion would still be there. Just my $.02

replacing mine was a pita, mainly because of the lack of access...maybe it would have been easier if i would have disconnected the auto tranny coolant lines. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />
Taro, Did you go in through the front passenger wheel well? It's not as easy as my 3.4, but it's not too bad. Ed

The alternator on my truck is about 2-3" from the rubber flap in the passenger wheel well. With the 3" body lift on my truck the alternator is totally visable from the wheel well. I need to make some rubber gap gaurds to keep my alt as far away from mud as possible.

ed, no sweat man. if it weren't for you, i'd still be looking for the 11th waterpump bolt!
troopah, getting back to what 94troop asked...besides putting a flap on to protect the alternator from the wheel well, what else can be done to protect the alternator? i think i remember reading about putting a plastic bag over something and siliconing so it would stay in place, but i don't think they were talking about an alternator. thanks, taro
