.....Here's an update on the situation..well after towing it from my original mechanics shop straight to an isuzu dealership...this is what happened
Well after the help of a couple members on this board, u guys saved me $2,500 - $3,500, or a $4000 new engine and future cost from my "crooked" (charged me $317 for some tensioner pulleys that didnt need replacing stated by dealer and $200 labor),idiotic mechanic who originally diagnosed the "internal engine damage" problem.
The original mechanic told and showed me there was no compression in the engine, wouldn't crank, but in actuality he took out the spark plugs (said by dealer mechanic when they were inspecting the rodeo) so the engine wouldn't fire up when he would demonstrate it to me not starting, thus no compression and would explain his reasoning for internal engine damage (possibility of bent pistons/valves he said).
Really Sad too cause i really liked and trusted my mechanic, whom i've sent alot of business to in the past . NOT ANYMORE!
As HunterD and Eric recommended i got a second opinion from my isuzu dealer and they told me it was just the timing belt that needed to be replaced and that there was no internal damage or need for repair other parts.
Cost from dealer, about $500 bucks after all is said and done(labor, belt and whatever else im forgetting they did), and the Rodeo runs better now than before she died on me just a couple of days ago.
Again Thank You Guys SOO much for the helpful and heeded advice. Without sounding too corny , It's just great that there are some people in the world u can trust, without alternate motivations.
...................................
Hello bear with me here, sorry this is kinda long, I just wanted to ask if anyone has done an engine rebuild for a rodeo w/ the 3.2l sohc engine. 1.) What's the process involved for the rebuild and what should i look for in a reputable installer and rebuilt engine machine manufacturer.(im going with a company called remaufactured.com, based here in IL)
Originally i was going with my normal mechanic who was going to install a isuzu remaufactured engine, $1800 for labor and $4,500 for the engine.
He is supposed to just fix the tensioner pulley and install a new belt etc because it died on me in the street and he said the tensioner pulley cracked causeing the timing belt to slip and cause damage, but it was going to cost $2500 or up to 3500 if there was internal damage(like bent pistons)to repair
but after research through here, i learned the 3.2 in my truck is a non-interference engine, so im questioning my mechanics diagnosis. and thinking a rebuilt engine is the way to go because as of now my current engine already has 208K miles so i might as well get another engine.
Im planning on getting a rebuilt engine installed by another mechanic for $850, and the rebuilt engine is going to cost $2,895.
So is the new engine the way to go? or should i get a second opinion from my isuzu dealership?
Sorry for the long post, and if it sounds like i have no idea what im talking about.(because i dont )
Thnx Wil
I was wondering if this is the normal cost for doing such a job and if the engine cost seems appropriate.(every other price i've seen seems higher??)

You might want to check the local parts stores, advance, autozone and such, they do carry remanufactured motors, just compare prices before you jump in. Just something else to think about. Just be happy you dont have to buy a new motor for a dodge equipped with the cummins, its like 6000 for a remanufactured motor.

why not just get the timing belt and tensioner replaced, like you said it is a non interference motor so i should not have done any internal damage. good luck

IMHO I have found most mech's I take my Isuzu's to (NoVA area anyway),know very little about them and usually screw it up more. I would take it to a dealer and get their opinion first. It could or could not save you some cash depending on what they think is wrong. In any event you'll at least get a diagnosis from an expert then you can get it replaced where ever you like.

but after research through here, i learned the 3.2 in my truck is a non-interference engine, is this true? when i tried to find the answer to that question, i got conflicting reports. or am i just not paying attention? It would seem to me they are interference engines, aren't most OHC motors? -Rob

If I am not mistaken, I believe Rubo once posted that you could purchase a NEW [color:"red"]3.2l sohc through merlin at St. Charles for about $2300 (FREE SHIPPING, TOO)??? This 'might' be a better option for you Edit : Sorry, it was for a DOHC engine, but then again the [color:"red"] sohc might even be cheaper , cause there were more in production Cheers, and best of luck , Santi

WOW! Glad things worked out great for you!
I have very little love for the average mechanic. I have had so many bad experiences over the years for them trying to snow me into more unnesesary repairs.
It might be the "look a female, easy target" syndrome but for other problems it's been just plain greed or simple ignorance of Isuzu's.
I have simply learn that for my truck I take it to the dealer for anything I can't solve myself. I let them diagnose it then if possible I do what repairs myself and let them do the rest.
I've even had repeated problems of a shop not being able to install my oil filter correctly, yet the same shop has no trouble on my Mustang. they have been unable to correctly replace an EGR tube costing me hundreds to repair their mistake. I've had mechs intentionally misset my valves, kink the excelerator cable, and other stupid stuff. It's simple things like this that forced me for the first time in vehicle ownership to just take it to the "experts" at the Isuzu dealer /sigh
Sorry you've had to have such a horrble greedy experience yourself. This is by far the most blatant, expensive and malicious con I've yet to have a person I'm familar with experience. Sooo glad you knew from the beginning something sounded fishy.
At the least I would definately report them to the BBB and speak with the shop owner (if that mech isn't the owner that is).

Thanks HunterD, ....yup, unfortunately the guy who owns the shop is the head mechanic and was the one who explained the whole bs problem to me in the first place.
Either he really had no clue about isuzu's or he was trying to screw me over big time. Well, he's lost mine and my family's business.
When you think you finally can trust a mechanic with your vehicles and then later on, as you keep giving them business they go and try to pull a fast one over you, that really pi$$ed me off.
But what the hell, it's a small lesson learned in that i won't be trusting that guy again with my rodeo.

Maybe I am reading something wrong here.............. but isn't it normal to take out the spark plugs during a compression test?
